Introducing Sahand Shimi Pool Tile Adhesive

Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive is used to install all tiles and ceramics on the floor and walls of pools, saunas and jacuzzis, ponds, fountains, water storage tanks, etc. This product is easy to prepare, quick to apply, has excellent adhesion, and is highly durable.

Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive has a national standard license from Iran. This adhesive is specially made for use in humid environments and is capable of installing all types of tiles, mosaics, and regular, glass, and pool ceramics. Using this product, it is possible to tile all vertical and horizontal surfaces of floors and walls, including concrete, cement, and surfaces covered with two-component sealant.

Waterproof property of pool tile adhesive

Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive is a powerful cement-based adhesive that is completely resistant to moisture, and tiles installed using this adhesive have high adhesion, strength, and durability in constant proximity to water.

Using this product, which is a modified mortar with waterproof polymer materials, the tiles adhere well to the walls, floor, and even the ceiling of the pool, and water penetration does not affect the durability of the installed tiles.

Pool tile adhesive applications

Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive is a good option for the following applications:

Installing all types of regular, glass, and pool pool tiles and ceramics
Installing all types of tiles and ceramics in environments with temperature and humidity shocks (such as saunas and jacuzzis)
Installing all types of tiles in environments in constant contact with water (such as pools, ponds, fountains, etc.)

This product has a high speed of preparation and implementation, and saves a lot of money and time in tiling.

The polymer additives in the formulation of this type of adhesive, in addition to providing high adhesion strength to connect the tile and the surface, also have high resistance to water and moisture, which has enabled its use in humid environments such as bathrooms and toilets. This enhanced feature in this product leads to an increase in the lifespan of tiles installed in conditions of constant humidity.

Using Pool Tile Adhesive in Outdoor and Indoor Pools

Powdered pool tile adhesive is commonly used for tiling indoor and outdoor pools, mixed with water. However, for outdoor pools, it is better to use Sahand Chemi mortar reinforcement resin (latex) instead of one-third of the water used to mix with the powdered adhesive.

Adding this polymer resin to the pool tile adhesive composition will greatly increase its adhesive strength, flexibility, water resistance, and ability to withstand various weather conditions, and will have a significant impact on the performance and life of the installed tiles.

The flexibility of this adhesive is very necessary, especially in cold seasons and freezing of the remaining water in the pool, which occurs with the combination of mortar strengthening resin.

Using pool tile adhesive in saunas and jacuzzis

The walls and floors of saunas and jacuzzis are periodically exposed to thermal shocks and continuous temperature changes. Therefore, mixing pool tile adhesive with water alone is not sufficient for installing tiles and ceramics in such environments.

In these environments, it is absolutely necessary to use Sahand Chemie’s mortar strengthening resin (latex) instead of part of the water used to mix with powder adhesive. Adding this polymer resin to the pool tile adhesive composition greatly increases its adhesive strength, flexibility, and water resistance, and prevents the installed tiles from separating due to temperature stresses.

Tiling on a two-component sealant using pool tile adhesive

If you have used Sahand Shimi two-component sealant to seal your pool, you can install your tiles and ceramics directly on it using Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive.

As mentioned, for tiling in an outdoor pool, sauna or jacuzzi, it is better to use Sahand Shimi mortar reinforcement resin (latex) to mix with powder adhesive instead of part of the water used.

Calculating the amount of pool tile adhesive needed

The volume of this product used depends greatly on the type of surface on which the tiling is being done; for smooth, plumb and level cement surfaces, the amount of adhesive used will be less. Each 20 kg bag of Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive usually covers an area between 3 and 7 square meters.

Any unevenness, unevenness, protrusions or depressions in the underlying surface, as well as the use of a trowel with large teeth, will increase the amount of pool tile adhesive consumed per square meter. How to prepare pool tile adhesive

Mix each 20 kg bag of Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive with about 5 to 6 liters of water using an electric mixer at low speed (4 to 1 weight ratio). To do this, slowly add the powder to the water and mix using an electric mixer at low speed. Continue mixing until you achieve a uniform and homogeneous mortar.

Then give the mortar a rest for 5 minutes and then mix again a little. Now your tile adhesive is ready to use.

Surface Conditions

It is strongly recommended that the back of the tile and the surface on which this product is applied be clean and free of any dirt, dust, paint, or grease. The presence of dirt on the surface can prevent the tile adhesive from adhering to it and cause the tiles to loosen or separate from the surface.

Using a Primer

The best way to prepare the surface before applying tile adhesive is to coat it with a layer of Sahand Shimi Construction Primer. According to measurements, the strength of tile adhesive when applied with a primer is approximately 2 times that of tile adhesive applied directly to the surface without a primer.

Using a primer significantly increases the adhesion of the surface and prevents the surface from absorbing water in the tile adhesive, which will prevent the tile adhesive from sponging and achieve its maximum strength.

Sahand Shimi Construction Primer is applied as a thin layer with a brush or roller to the surface and after drying, it will be ready to apply the adhesive. For surfaces with high water absorption, it is mandatory to use a construction primer before applying the tile adhesive.

How to apply pool tile adhesive

In the standard tiling method with tile adhesive, you must first apply the tile adhesive in parallel grooves and in one direction on the desired surface using a notched trowel. Then apply a thin layer of adhesive to the back surface of the tile or ceramic and install the tile on the surface within a maximum of 20 minutes.

For better results, it is recommended to use a layer of Sahand Shimi Construction Primer on the desired surface before applying the tile adhesive.

Application temperature and workability time

The best application temperature for this product is between 5 and 40 degrees Celsius. At lower temperatures, the drying time of the adhesive will be longer.

The period of use of powder tile adhesive after mixing with water (working time) depends on various factors such as ambient temperature and volume of prepared adhesive. In general, to achieve the best performance of this product, we recommend that you prepare only the quantities required for tiling for up to 1 hour and then proceed to make a new adhesive.

Setting time

The initial setting time of this product under standard conditions (at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius) is 24 hours, and the tile adhesive reaches its maximum strength after 28 days. However, this period depends on various factors such as temperature, humidity, adhesive thickness and application conditions and may be shorter or longer.

Expiration date and storage conditions

This product can be used for up to one year if stored in its packaging in a dry place away from moisture.

Note: Sahand Shimi pool tile adhesive has high resistance to water and moisture, but this product does not act as a moisture insulator and cannot be used as a waterproofing material. Therefore, replacing it with moisture-proofing is not recommended at all.
